Signe Vestergaard restores damaged photographs for a living, burying her strange childhood gift—the ability to see the hungry, unlived lives hidden beneath old images—behind strict routine and silence. But when a client hands her a portrait of her late husband featuring a daughter who was never born, the impossible happens: the child steps out of the frame and begins feeding on memory and soul.
Pulled into the dark, subterranean world beneath Egeskov Havn, Signe discovers that unborn children knock from locked drawers, forgotten names whisper from stone walls, and an ancient hunger is waking. Aided by her sharp-tongued friend Freja, the wounded gatekeeper Magnus, and her mother’s buried secrets, Signe faces a terrifying revelation: she was not only born from grief; she was pulled from the grave.
Rich with gothic dread, The Graveyard of Unlived Lives is a haunting fantasy horror about grief, memory, motherhood, and the terrifying power of the paths we never walked.
